Casper Christmas Bird Count

This will be our 79th Casper count. The first one was on the second day of the Blizzard of ‘49, and 18 hardy people found 38 species. Today, we hope to have closer to 50 people and over 60 species. It is really fun to cover an area and count every bird you can find. We have plenty of good birders, so even if you don’t know any birds, you can join a group and contribute. When you have lots of birders covering a 15-mile-diameter circle, someone usually finds an unusual bird. Because we try very hard not to count any bird twice, we have to organize the groups so that the area is covered as well as we can, but no one covers the same area as another group.
